Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. This MA Design course incorporates practice-based learning that is informed by contemporary and contextual influences and founded on your own personal aims and professional direction.
  2. The first two semesters of this course will focus on developing your core skills through the completion of four modules: design thinking, design practice, direction and experimentation.
  3. Teaching is delivered via a mix of lectures, seminars and tutorials, which are assessed by coursework and design projects. You will also undertake collaborative projects and, where possible, field trips to allow you to put your skills into practise in a real-world context.
  4. Upon completion of the taught modules, you will undertake a final project or thesis to demonstrate all of the skills you have acquired on this course. This will be undertaken under the supervision of your dedicated tutor who will provide advice and guidance at all stages.

Standard Entry

Applicants will normally be expected to have a good honours degree in a design discipline or a related subject and be engaged in professional design practice.

Mature applicants with a lower qualification and at least three years appropriate professional experience may be accepted. Applicants with substantial relevant experience alone will be considered on their individual merit.

Applicants will be expected to be computer literate and should be familiar with the use of internet applications.

Plus one of the following:
  • International/English Language Requirements:

    International applicants are required to have one of the following English language qualifications with grades as shown below.

    • A British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 5.5
    • Pearson Academic score of 62 (or above) with a minimum score in each component of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking of 51
