Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- Graduate Entry Route \x96 you will be required to undertake 120 days (24 weeks) on placement in Early Years settings or schools. Face-to-face sessions will cover content such as the fundamentals of early years, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), enabling environments, safeguarding, inclusion, positive relationships/behaviour, child development, leadership and management, planning and assessment, early maths, early reading and phonics, and the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 continuum;
- Graduate Employment-based Route \x96 face-to-face sessions will cover content such as the fundamentals of early years, enabling environments, inclusion, child development, leadership and management, planning and assessment, managing behaviour for learning, early maths, early reading and phonics, and the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 continuum;
- Undergraduate Entry Route \x96 you will undertake 120 days (24 weeks) on placement in Early Years settings or schools. Face-to-face conference days will cover content such as the fundamentals of early years, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), enabling environments, safeguarding, inclusion, positive relationships/behaviour, child development, leadership and management, planning and assessment, early maths, early reading and phonics, and the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 continuum;
- Assessment Only Route \x96 there are no face-to-face sessions or conference days on the assessment only route.

Academic Requirements
To cater for applicants from a range of backgrounds, settings and roles, the route you undertake will be based on your qualifications and experience.
We can help you to choose the right route to become an Early Years Teacher, with appropriate and sufficient time being trained in Early Years settings or schools to enable you to meet all of the Teachers\xc2\x92 Standards (Early Years).
The specific criteria which apply to each route are as follows:- Graduate Entry Route \xc2\x96 you must hold a degree from a UK higher education institution or equivalent. You will need to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure for clearance to work with children;
- Graduate Employment-based Route / Assessment Only Route \xc2\x96 you must hold a degree from a UK higher education institution or equivalent;
- Undergraduate Entry Route \xc2\x96 you must be enrolled on a relevant degree at Edge Hill University. You will need to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure for clearance to work with children.
In addition to the above, you will need to have achieved a minimum of Grade C in GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Science (or equivalent).
Whichever route you wish to join, it is important that you have the creativity, commitment, energy and enthusiasm that leading early years practice requires.
All candidates who are successful at the application stage will be invited to interview. At the interview stage, candidates will be requested to participate in group tasks, a presentation, written tasks and a formal interview.
