Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
A 2:1 honours degree and a merit award at master\'s level, or international equivalent, in a relevant subject.
If you don\'t have a master\'s degree there is a wide range of programmes for you to choose from in Newcastle University Business School.
Alternatively, you may apply for 1+3 funding under the North East Doctoral Training Centre (NEDTC) in which you first complete the MA in Finance and Economics (Research) before proceeding to the PhD track.
This master\'s degree is designed for applicants who have a relevant undergraduate degree but require research methods and subject-specific training in finance and/or economics.
This programme is highly competitive and potential applicants are asked to contact a staff member early on in the academic year in order to work-up their application for entry in the following year.

If your first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 7.0 (with at least 6.5 in writing and and no other sub-skills below 6.0).
