Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. The study-programme is full-time and runs over one year. The language of instruction is English. Courses are taught by professors from all partner universities. Professors from all partner universities act as supervisors and evaluators of the final dissertation.
  2. The Programme consists of 60 ECTS credits, the taught part of the programme consisting of 45 credits and the dissertation having a weight of 15 credits. One credit is roughly equivalent to 25 working hours (lectures, assignments and study time). Optional, but credited, language courses are offered in each of the languages of the countries involved in the Consortium (English excepted).
  3. Teaching during the year is organised in three terms of approximately 3 months, each time at a different partner university in a different country. The partner universities act as host institutions according to a rotation scheme. During term 1 (mid September to end of December) students study the core areas of advanced micro- and macroeconomics, together with applied econometrics.
  4. During terms 2 (beginning of January to the end of March) and 3 (beginning of April to the end of June) students pursue in-depth studies in the specific areas of the Award: i.e. international trade (theory and policy), open-economy macroeconomics, the economics of globalisation and the economics of European integration. Students should choose one subject in the list of advanced subject option courses and one subject in the list of skills option courses.
  5. They may however choose more option courses in both lists. Only the best marks in both lists will be used to calculate the overall GPA. The students finalise their dissertation (15 credits in total) during summer and are allowed to submit it until 30 September. During the second term they have to hand in a short (credited) dissertation brief. Feedback is given to it in the Academic Writing optional course (2 ECTS credits).
  6. During each of the three trimesters approx. 20 ECTS credits can be earned: term 1: 18 ECTS credits for core subjects plus 2 ECTS credits for (skills) optional subjects; term 2: 14 ECTS credits for core subjects plus 5 and/or 2 ECTS credits for optional subjects plus 2 ECTS credits for the dissertation brief handed in during this trimester; term 3: 6 ECTS credits for core subjects plus 5 and/or 2 ECTS credits for optional subjects plus the 13 remaining ECTS credits for the dissertation.
