Course Structure

  1. The course introduces pharmacology, legal and ethical prescribing, interpersonal skills and quality assurance aspects of prescribing. These are underpinned by reflection on your own experience, evaluation of your own performance and application of theory to practice. It also enables participants to be aware of current developments within non-medical prescribing in the UK.

Academic Requirements

Access to this course is available to all practitioners who meet the following criteria. You must:
  • Have an Honours degree, or be able to provide evidence of your potential to study at M Level.
  • Be a Registered Nurse, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or Midwife whose name is held on the relevant part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
  • Have at least three years post-registration experience and be deemed competent by your employer to undertake the course. Of these three years, the year immediately preceding application to the course must have been in the clinical field in which you intend to prescribe.
  • Have successfully completed a history-taking and assessment module or be deemed competent in practice to take a history and make a diagnosis for the conditions for which they will prescribe.
  • Have a current satisfactory full enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check (within the last three years).
  • Have current Occupational Health Screening.
  • Have the written support of your employer for you to undertake the Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) short course.
  • Have a designated medical practitioner who meets the eligibility criteria as recommended by the Department of Health for the medical supervision of non-medical prescribers and who agrees to provide the required term of supervised practice.
  • Have patients/client with clinical needs within your current role to justify prescribing.
  • Have sufficient knowledge to apply prescribing principles taught on the course to your own clinical area and field of practice.
  • Have the confirmed agreement from the Trust\xc2\x92s Non-Medical Prescribing lead in order to undertake the course.

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
