Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- The Teacher Education Program (TEP) offers the Education Specialist Moderate/Severe (ESC, Special Ed), Multiple Subject (MST, Elementary), and Single Subject (SST, Secondary) Preliminary California State Teaching Credentials combined with a Master's Degree in Education (MEd).
- The one-year, full-time combined Education Specialist, Multiple Subject, Single Subject Credential/Master's Degree program is designed to provide the knowledge and experience, both academic and practical, needed to begin a teaching career. Student teaching is concurrent with course work so that the knowledge, theories, and concepts taught at the University can be directly and immediately applied in the classroom setting. The program begins in summer 2017 and concludes in June 2018 (for credential only) or July/August 2018 (for credential + M.Ed.).

- All requirements must be uploaded to your online application
- Online application: ($90 fee for domestic applicants, $110 fee for international applicants)
- Statement of Purpose (composed of three question prompts), Personal Achievements/Contributions (composed of two or three question prompts), and Resume or CV. Please note the TEP prompts differ from the E-App essay prompts. - Three letters of recommendation (submitted online by letter writers)
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (submitted online)
- GRE General or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores
- TOEFL scores 550 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 80 Internet-Based Test (IBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall Band score of 7 or higher (if applicable)
- Program requirements: 45 hours of Pre-Professional Experience, On-Campus Interview, TB Test Clearance, and CPR Adult, Child and Infant CertificationCA State requirements: Bachelors Degree, Fulfillment of the Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST)) and CSET (subject matter) Passing Test Scores, Certificate of Clearance documentation, and U.S. Constitution Passing Exam or Course
- Final/Official transcripts will be required for all applicants who are admitted and have indicated their intent to enroll at UC Santa Barbara by submitting a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). UC Santa Barbara reserves the right to require official transcripts at any time during the admissions process, and rescind any offer of admission made if discrepancies between uploaded and official transcript(s) are found.
