Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
- Bachelor\'s degree in education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 overall or a GPA of 3.00 in the last 2 years of your undergraduate program.
- Submission of 3 letters of recommendation from those who can comment on your academic and/or professional abilities.
- Submission of a 2-3 page personal statement essay that addresses the following questions:
- What personal and professional experiences have led you to pursue graduate studies in TESOL or ELL Education?
- What are the characteristics, attitudes, values, and/or skills that you think will make you a good candidate as an ELL or TESOL teacher?
- What personal and professional goals would you like to achieve in the next five years? Include in your description reasons why these goals are important to you.
- A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test or 213 on the computer-based test for all applicants whose native language is not English (not applicable for those who received a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree from the United States or English-speaking Canada).
- Completion of a criminal background check prior to beginning the ELL practicum experience for those not currently employed with or teaching in a public K-12 school.
English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
