Applying to the Graduate program Please note that all application materials must be received before any action can be taken on an applicant\xc2\x92s request for admission or financial aid.
- All graduate programs require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), official transcript(s), three letters of recommendation, a statement of goals or a personal essay, and a writing sample.
- We will accept your supporting application materials through Interfolio . Each time you upload documents, be sure to select "Postion-->All Graduate School Liberal Arts Applicants" and send as a new delivery. These will be sent to Linda Rendulic in our Graduate Office, who will then confirm the receipt of your materials.
Admission Requirements
Master of Arts Degree
- All applicants, please use this online application.
- An application addendum (submit electronically or print and mail). THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE APPLICATION, YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH.
- Official transcript(s) recording all baccalaureate work, along with degree, from an accredited undergraduate college or university.If you are currently taking classes, please submit your transcript once grades have been posted for Fall 2015 courses.
- A 3.0 grade average, based on a four point scale, in the final two years of undergraduate work is normally required.
- An official score report indicating satisfactory performance on the verbal, quantitative and analytic sections on the Graduate Record Examination. (Duquesne University Code: 2196, Department Code: 2501)
- Letters of recommendation from three persons familiar with the applicant\xc2\x92s academic studies or, in some cases, work experience. (Note: The department does not contact recommenders. Letters should be submitted directly to the Graduate School at the address above or through Interfolio. The cover sheet can be accessed here.)
- A brief (1-2 page) statement of the applicant\xc2\x92s purpose in seeking the Master of Arts degree.
- A sample of the applicant\xc2\x92s academic writing (normally a critical paper written for an English course, 10-20 pages).
- A r\xc3\xa9sum\xc3\xa9 or curriculum vitae.
- An official score report indicating satisfactory performance on TOEFL examination (applicable to international students only).
Deadlines for Admission to the M.A. program are:
- January 15th for Fall admission and fellowship consideration.
- July 1st for Fall admission and students not pursuing a fellowship opportunity. Students may apply for federal financial aid.
- October 15th for Spring admission and students not pursuing a fellowship opportunity. Students may apply for federal financial aid.
