Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- Two of three foundation courses (5340, Research Methods; 5342, Critical Methods; 5060, History and Theory of College Composition)
- One course in British literature
- One course in American literature
- One course in Comparative Literature
- One professional development course (Professional Development Curriculum and an optional 5390: Writing for Publication)
- Six hours of thesis, or two additional courses plus a portfolio
- Foreign language or a tools/methods course
- Literature courses must cover the main literary genres, poetry, drama, and prose fiction.
- Particular concentrations, such as in Book History, Comparative Literature, Film and Media Studies, Linguistics, or Literature, Social Justice, and Environment, are available within the department and would be available to online students seeking a specialized rather than generalist degree. We do not plan to offer the concentration in creative writing online at this time.
- Students are not required to enroll in a certain number of courses each semester, so completion time varies by individual. Learn more about the difference between part-time and full-time student status.

Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
Apply to Texas Tech University\'s Graduate School.
- Complete the Graduate Admissions Application.
- $60 initial application fee or $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program requests, or readmission requests).
- Students planning to pursue a master\'s degree must submit Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores to the Graduate School. Scores must be less than five years old at the time of application.
- International students must also submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score to the Graduate School. Scores must be less than two years old at the time of application. Learn more about International Graduate Applications.
Apply to the MA Program in English by November 1, 2015 for Spring 2016 and by December 15, 2015 for Fall 2016.\xc2\xa0
