Academic Requirements

Admission to our program is competitive and entails completion of the\xc2\xa0Graduate Application for Admission, payment of the requisite application fee to the Graduate School, and submission of the following supplementary materials, which must be sent directly to the Graduate Director:

  • Two confidential letters of reference. These letters should be written by those most able to address your academic work, written and verbal skills, and promise of achievement at the graduate level. Your referees should send their letters directly to the Director of Graduate Studies.
  • A writing sample. Your writing sample should take the form of a one-page typewritten statement of purpose in which you outline your educational background, teaching and/or research experience (if any), and reasons for pursing an MA in English.
  • A completed graduate assistantship application form. Please note that this form is only required of those students seeking funding.
  • TOEFL and TWE scores. These are required of international students. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all materials are received by the Graduate Director. Incomplete applications will be denied.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6 or equivalent.
