Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

- Three\xc2\xa0references. At least two must be from persons able to speak to your academic qualifications and performance. At least one must speak to your potential scholarship in English.\xc2\xa0

- Statement of purpose (500- to 1,000-words, double-spaced) addressing the following:
\xc2\xa0- Your interest in teaching English as the secondary level (grades 8-12)
- Your interest in studying English at the graduate level (ie, how you see yourself as a scholar of English)
- A passing score on the Massachusetts Tests for Education Licensure (MTEL)\xc2\xa0communication and literacy portion and content test for English.\xc2\xa0
