Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Chinese Area Studies is an interdisciplinary specialisation that can be chosen as part of the following MA programmes:

  • Development and International Relations
  • European Studies
  • Culture, Communication & Globalization
  • International Business Communication, English.

If you are in doubt if Chinese Area Studies can be combined with your MA programme, please contact your MA programme secretary.

Full degree students begin on September 1 whereas guest/exchange students begin September 1 or February 1.

Restricted admission to the master\'s degree programme in development and international relations and the master\'s degree programme in european studies

If you want to apply for the Master\'s degree programme in Development and International Relations or European Studies with specialisation in either Arctic Studies, Latin American Studies, Global Gender Studies or Chinese Area Studies, you must apply for the Master\'s degree programme in Development and International Relations (Aalborg) or the Master\'s degree programme in European Studies. If you are admitted to the Master\'s degree programme, we will send you an email with information about how to apply for a specialisation.

As of 2016, admission will be restricted to the Master\'s degree programme in Development and International Relations and the Master\'s degree programme in European Studies. The number of student places will be:

  • 99 student places at Development and International Relations (Aalborg)
  • 11 student places at Development and International Relations with specialisation in China and International Relations (Aalborg and Beijing)
  • 60 student places at Development and International Relations with specialisation in Global Refugee Studies (Copenhagen)
  • 34 student places at European Studies (Aalborg)

  • 1 student place at European Studies with specialisation in China and International Relations (Aalborg and Beijing).

Assessment and prioritisation of the qualified applicants will take place on the basis of the following selection criterion:

  • The grade point average for ECTS credits obtained during the qualifying Bachelor\'s degree at the time of application.

Applicants who already have a Master\'s degree will normally only be admitted to a new Master\'s degree programme with restricted admission if vacant student places are available. In case of exceptional circumstances, you can apply for an exemption. Together with your application for admission, please enclose documentation for the exceptional circumstances in question.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
