Course Structure

[\'Historiography and TheoryThis courses offers in-depth analysis of both the city of Rome and its role as the capital of the Roman Empire, and of the \‘idea\’ of Rome throughout the centuries, embracing both the old and New or Second Rome, Constantinople. This course provides a historiographical overview of the ways in which different aspects of Rome appealed to the imagination of rulers and writers throughout history, starting from Mussolini in the 20th century and going back to the first emperor of the Roman Empire, Augustus.\', \'Research Seminar ER: The City of RomeThis research seminar offers an in-depth analysis of the urban environments and fabric of the city of Rome in the comparison with other important ancient and medieval cities. Interactions between the various cities will also be explored, as will the ancient lives and medieval afterlives of other pre-modern metropoles that at least partly modelled themselves on Rome. However, the greater part of our attention will be focused on the monuments raised in these cities and the later receptions of those structures.\', "Research Seminar RA: Urbi et orbiThis research seminar discusses the various local, regional, and even \‘global\' perspectives onand from Rome, from the archaic to the late medieval period. The diachronic approach allows for analyses of underlying patterns, continuity and change.", \'Roman Law\', \'Elementair Latijn I en II\', \'A course at the Royal Dutch Institute in Rome or the Netherlands Institute in Turkey\', \'A course in History, Humanities, Roman Law etc. at Radboud University or another qualified university\', \'Internship: an internship is a unique opportunity to get a taste of the practical side of being a historian. Admission for students with a Bachelor’s diploma from a Dutch university

In order to get admission to this Master’s you’ll need a completed Bachelor’s degree in History or a BA/MA degrees in related fields like Greek and Latin or Archaeology.
