Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
Applicants for the M.Sc. program in Experimental Medicine must hold either a B.Sc. degree or its equivalent or an M.D. degree. The Division requires a cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) of not less than 3.2 out of a possible maximum of 4.0.
Candidates who have only a B.Sc. degree but who have demonstrated academic excellence (cGPA of 3.5 out of a possible maximum of 4.0 throughout their undergraduate studies) can be considered for direct entry into the Ph.D., if they so desire. These candidates should clearly indicate (on the application form) that they are seeking entry into the Ph.D. program rather than the M.Sc.
Applicants for the M.Sc. (Bioethics Option) program must hold an M.D., Nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy and/or any other professional health training degree. Students who do not fit these criteria may be considered for admission on an individual basis.

- Application fee: Application fees and other charges are listed on the student accounts website
- Transcripts: your complete record of study from each university-level institution you have attended to date. Uploaded copies will be considered as unofficial; final, official copies will be required once you are offered admission.
- Personal Statement: a short statement (2-3 pages, typed double-spaced) explaining why you wish to study bioethics at McGill, any relevant background, education, experience or involvement in the field, and in addition, how this fits in with your interest in the base discipline in which you are applying.
- Reference letters: on the application form you must provide the names and email addresses of three qualified individuals who are familiar with your work. McGill will contact these referees and invite them to upload references on your behalf. Please note that although you can list public domain addresses such as Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo Mail on the application form, references uploaded from these addresses will not be accepted by the Department. Therefore you must list a valid institutional or corporate e-mail address for your referees.
- A Sample of written work: 15-20 pages, typed, double-spaced.
- Proof of Competency in oral and written English
- Confirmation of Supervisor: uApply may indicate confirmation of supervisor as one of the requirements. This is not the case for the Bioethics options as you may chose or be assigned a supervisor after being admitted to the program. Proceed with the online application and this requirement will be removed once you have submitted your application.
