  9. The MSF Program has been accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. As a result, many of our graduates earn the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation\x97a mark of distinction that prepares them for highly competitive jobs.

Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.8

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.8 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

To be admitted, you must hold a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree from an accredited college or university and submit:

  • Application for admission with a $50 nonrefundable application fee
  • Statement of professional goals indicating how a Master of Science in Finance (MSF) from Suffolk University will help you achieve your goals
  • Current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation from past or present academic or professional colleagues
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended.
  • An official GMAT or GRE score.
  • International applicants must submit proof of English proficiency via successful completion of the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE-Academic. Visit the International Students page for full details.

You may be eligible to waive the GMAT/GRE requirement if:

  • You\xc2\x92re a CFA
  • You qualify for the 4+1 Program by having at least a 3.5 (on a scale of 4.0) cumulative GPA in your final semester of your senior year as an undergraduate business student at a U.S. institution. (Recent graduates also considered.)
  • You qualify for the Suffolk Gold Waiver by having at least a 3.4 (on a scale of 4.0) cumulative undergraduate GPA and at least four years of full-time, professional work experience.
  • You graduated from an ABA-approved law school (must submit documentation of LSAT and passing the Bar)
  • Others will be considered on a case-by-case basis

If you have at least one year of full-time work experience and a 2.8 or higher GPA, you may be eligible to enroll in up to two core MSF courses before taking the GMAT as part of our Management Advancement Professional Studies (MAPS) program.

An interview with the Director or Assistant Director of the Graduate Programs in Finance is the final step in the admission process for local applicants. Once the Office of Graduate Admission has received all application materials, you will be contacted to arrange your interview. Other applicants will be contacted on a case-by-case basis to arrange interviews for admission.
