Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Requirements

Applications for admission to Master of Science in Education programs in the Department of Teacher Education Programs are made to the Graduate Admission Office. Admissions decisions are based on comprehensive reviews of the following:

  • A completed application form to the master\xc2\x92s program.
  • Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, at least one indicating conferral of a baccalaureate degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.75 in
  1. Overall course work, and
  2. Course work in fine arts and art history.
  • A written personal statement describing the candidate\xc2\x92s goals in the teaching profession and in graduate studies.
  • Completion of General Education Core prerequisites for teacher education programs (see below).
  • Two letters of reference that address the applicant\xc2\x92s potential to succeed in the teaching profession and in graduate studies.
  • A portfolio of arts works (or photographs thereof), including a drawing, a painting, a sculpture, and one additional submission of the student\xc2\x92s choice.

The faculty of the Department of Teacher Education Programs recognize that a single criterion may not reliably predict a candidate\xc2\x92s potential for success in a graduate program and in the teaching profession. Accordingly, candidates may wish to apply if they do not meet one of the criteria but believe that other aspects of their experience may compensate. Students who do not meet the admissions requirements may be advised to complete prerequisite courses under a planned program before becoming eligible for admission. A maximum of 12 s.h. of graduate course work leading toward the master of science in education may be completed prior to matriculation in the program.
