Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. Current Topics in Sustainability Research I The course module on Current Topics in Research on Sustainable Development aims at providing students with broad knowledge on current research and practice in regards to sustainable development. Topics that will be dealt with include Innovation, Stakeholder Relations, Organisation & Management, Partnerships & Networks, Finance, Climate Change and other environmental problems, Social Responsibility, Tool boxes, etc. The seminars will provide for interaction between research and practice and is intended to facilitate a link between more theoretical/scientific knowledge and more practical knowledge.
  2. Tools and Systems of Sustainable Development The aim of this course is to provide the students with a thorough understanding of organisations and of the managerial and strategic implications of the environmental and social challenges facing businesses operating on international markets. The course will explain various management philosophies and tools that firms can apply in order to measure, assess, and communicate environmentally and socially responsible performance. Some of the tools included are: Environmental Management Systems, Life Cycle Assessment, Carbon Footprinting and Eco-design.
  3. Theories of Science and Research Design The course module gives you an understanding of the different theories of science, and how they are connected to the choice of research design. It will make you capable of assessing and communicating choice of and background for research design.
  4. Current Topics in Sustainability Research II The course module on Current Topics in Research on Sustainable Development aims at providing students with broad knowledge on current research and practice in regards to sustainable development.
  5. Sustainability by Design The course provides knowledge about how different tools can be used to analyse and solve design-, planning- and policy-related problems and promote sustainable development. The course will focus both on the use of the tools as well as on critical analysis of their use and context.
  6. Politics, Planning and Governance The course is focussed on power, politics and policy as well as stakeholders, institutions and discourses in relation to decision-making processes. The lectures will be based on current research and aim for critical reflections on planning and decision-making processes.

Academic Requirements

You can study as a guest student on the first and/or second term or a Master\'s student following the entire two-year degree programme.
Students seeking to enrol in the programme are required to have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor of science degree in engineering, geography or natural sciences.
  • Documented working knowledge of written and spoken English (verified IELTS score report with a minimum score of 6.5, TOEFL (paper based) 550, TOEFL (computer based) 230, TOEFL (internet based): 80 or Cambridge ESOL: C1.
