Course Structure

  1. Geographic Information Systems: Introduction to GIS; Advanced GIS; and one elective chosen from Python Programming for ArcGIS, Remote Sensing, Techniques in Landscape Ecology, Aerial Photo Interpretation.
  2. Gerontology:   The Logic of Inquiry; Qualitative Research Methods; and one elective chosen from Linking Research and Practice, Organizations and the Aging Enterprise, Policy and Politics of Aging, Quantitative Methods and Statistics.
  3. Interactive Media Studies: Digital Development Methods, Visual Rhetoric, and one elective.
  4. History Module: Colloquium, one elective, and one additional Independent study.

Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Admission requirements are the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • An undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (of a possible 4.0), with higher grades in undergraduate history courses.
  • A two- to three-page personal statement about your field of interest and career objectives.  We ask that you provide us with as clear and detailed a statement as possible.
  • An academic writing sample of 10 to 20 pages, preferably on a historical topic.
  • Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). 
  • Three letters of recommendation. 
  • Credentials of applicants from other countries must be evaluated by the Office of International Student Services. These students must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

    • English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
