Academic Requirements

  • Two (2) recommendations from persons in a position to know your ability to pursue graduate level work in this particular field must be submitted with your application.
  • Transcripts required from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Transcripts must be forwarded in their original sealed envelopes.
  • Statement of purpose:In an essay of 250 to 500 words, describe your reasons for undertaking study in the Health Sciences at The George Washington University. You should state your academic objectives, career plans, and related qualifications, including collegiate, professional, and community activities, as well as any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form.
Additional Requirements:

Applicants to the program must have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Biological Science or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, MT(ASCP), or other recognized national certifying body and/or previous clinical laboratory experience
  • Current enrollment in a Specialist in Blood Banking Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking Technologist (S.B.B.) within the last seven years
  • Applicants must complete a telephone interview with the faculty of The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences Clinical Laboratory Science programs.
  • Applicants must review the Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening Policy.

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
