Graduate Admissions Requirements for Students Educated Abroad
  1. Official documentation indicating successful completion of the equivalent of a U.S. baccalaureate degree: If you were educated in a country other than the United States, you must have your official transcripts evaluated by an independent credit evaluation service. The evaluation company will send a copy of the evaluation to both you and UMUC. However, providing your transcript does not ensure admission to the Graduate School.
  2. English language proficiency: If English is not your native language, you need to demonstrate college-level proficiency in written English to UMUC by means of one of the following:
  • Earn a minimum score of 550 on the written version or 79 on the Internet version on the Test of English as a Foreign Language as well as a minimum score of 4 on the Test of Written English, except for the Internet-based TOEFL, where no TWE is required; the TOEFL score recovery code for UMUC is 5804
  • Earn a minimum overall score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System; must include the academic writing and academic reading modules
  • Earn a minimum grade of Pre-1 on the Eiken English Proficiency Exam
  • Submit a transcript indicating completion of at least 12 credits of graduate coursework within the past two years, with a grade of B or higher, at a regionally accredited U.S. degree-granting institution or college; all credit is subject to review before being accepted as evidence of English proficiency
