Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- UK students should normally hold an honours degree, ideally but not necessarily in Music.
- Non-UK students should hold a Bachelor\'s degree or a similar degree-equivalent diploma, ideally but not necessarily in Music.
- MMus Intensive applicants must be at Level 7 standard in their Principal Study Area and be well-suited to the intensive period of study.
Audition requirements
- All applicants for this course will be auditioned.
- Home student auditions will be scheduled live in Birmingham.
- EU/international students outside the UK at the time of application may submit a recording or may travel to one of our International Audition Centres.
- For Intensive MMus applicants, a high-scoring audition/interview will be followed by an interview with the Programme Director or nominee to ensure suitability.
- Most Instrumental Performance candidates will be asked to present a varied programme of about 15 minutes duration.
- Depending on your area of study, you may be required to include orchestral excerpts, an extended piece and/or specified material.
- Collaborative piano candidates should bring a singer to perform three works (including a Lied) with, perform an extended piece/movement for solo piano and sight-read.
- Applicants for the string chamber route must audition as an ensemble and individually.

- You must have a minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent in\xc2\xa0all four skills areas\xc2\xa0to secure a visa
- You must have IELTS 6; or alternatively must have studied and completed a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in the UK.
