Program Overview
The International Cognitive Visualization (ICV) Program at Pierre-Mend\xc3\xa8s-France University (UPMF) is a MA programme in Humanities over 24 months, delivered On-campus. Program Curriculum
Course Structure
- Understand the way humans construct internal cognitive models to represent concepts and solve problems of the visible and invisible object and conceptual world.
- Understand how humans design, interpret, and use visualizations to represent and solve problems.
- Design and deploy effective methods of basic and applied research to produce empirically-based answers to questions of human performance with visualization tools and media.
- Understand, interpret, and successfully accommodate cultural and linquistic impediments to visualization-mediated problem solving indigenous to humans working from multiple cultural and national-identity perspectives.
- Faciliate communication between professionals of different professional sectors to understand human culture and the cognitive strategies used when making meaning from, and solving problems with, visualization tools and media.

Academic Requirements
Undergraduate Degree
- Submission of all undergraduate and post-baccalaureate transcripts and degree certificate(s) with a completed bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in either Psychology, ACG, Educational Science, Computer Science, Communication Studies, or a closely related field of study at an accredited institution, or evidence of the equivalent to the U.S./E.U. baccalaureate earned from a recognized foreign institution. Applicant must be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended.
Undergraduate GPA
- Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 semester units taken for a letter grade (or ECTS equivalent for European applicants) (based on a 4-point scale with, 4.0 being the highest) transformed on the common metric. (This is not necessarily the last 60 semester units of undergraduate coursework.)
Knowledge Competence
- Recommended completion of the following undergraduate courses: Statistics, and Human Learning (or equivalent), Cognitive Psychology (or equivalent), or Human Perception (or equivalent) by the time of departure from the USA, with a grade of \'B\' or better.
Software Competence
- A description of your developing basic operational skills in: Dreamweaver, Excel, MSWord, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and SPSS by the time of departure from the USA.
Second Language Competence
- American Students: Statement of dedication to language learning (for non-native German and non-native French speaking students); for example, by having been enrolled, or plans to enroll, in a course (in-seat, online, or other) in French or German by the time of departure from the USA to Europe. If applicants can prove language competence of French or German at Level B1 or higher (CEFR), language course enrollment at the time of application is exempt.
- Non-native English-speaking Students: Language proficiency scores in English based on TOEFL (for non-native English-speaking students) at a minimum iBT score of 80.

- Two letter of recommendation
Statement of Goals
- In English; 1200 words
Vaccination
- Proof of vaccination against mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR). Proof of a recent TB blood test (IGRA) that shows negative for tuberculosis (TB) within the last 30 days, by the time of departure from the USA.
Health/Accident Insurance
- Proof of health/accident insurance, minimum coverage $50,000 accident or illness, $10,000 medical evaluation, and $7,500 repatriation. All students must have a valid health insurance.
Citizenship
- Proof of citizenship in the USA or EU. (Non USA or EU citizens may apply to the ICV Program, but do not qualify for a travel stipend).
Visas
- For non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents: Proof of J-1 Visa; for U.S. citizens, visa must be obtained for Germany by the time of departure from the U.S., and France by the time of departure from Germany.
