Academic Requirements
Candidates for admission to our graduate law programs must possess a Bachelor of Laws degree or an equivalent law degree from an accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0, or its equivalent (upper second class).
Graduate level courses in Law are offered in English, and English-language abilities must be demonstrated for admission. In order to communicate fully with all law students at McGill, and to understand all course materials, the ability to speak and read French is an asset. At McGill\xc2\x92s Faculty of Law, all students may choose to write essays, examinations and thesis in English or French. In areas such as the study of private law in the civilian tradition or comparative private law, a reading knowledge of French is essential.
Candidates for admission to the LL.M. program must hold the degree of Bachelor of Laws, or its equivalent (e.g. J.D.), from an accredited university (as determined by the Quebec government). The candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0, or its equivalent (Upper Second Class). This standing does not guarantee admission, however; the Graduate Admissions Committee weighs the entire file. There are a limited number of places in the programs.At the time of application, candidates should indicate whether they wish to be registered in the Faculty generally, or in the Institute of Comparative Law or the Institute of Air and Space Law. The different program requirements are set out elsewhere in these web pages.Candidates must also indicate whether they wish to apply to the Thesis option or the Non-Thesis option. Candidates who apply to the thesis option may be offered a place in the non-thesis option.In the case of applications to thesis programs, the Graduate Admissions Committee must consider the availability of a supervisor. If a supervisor is not available in the applicant\'s preferred field of study, the applicant may be refused admission or else offered admission pending a change of field of study.

3.Transcripts: your complete record of study from each university-level institution you have attended to date. Uploaded copies are considered unofficial; final, official copies will be required of admitted applicants.
4.Reference letters: on the application form you must provide the names and email addresses of at least two professors who are familiar with your academic work. McGill will contact these referees and invite them to upload references on your behalf.
5.TOEFL/IELTS, GRE, GMAT results: when registering for the test, please ensure that you request that results be sent directly to McGill University. McGill will then receive the results electronically, directly from the testing agency.
