Academic Requirements

  • GRE general test strongly encouraged, but not required
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation, preferably from supervisors or employers.
  • Transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be uploaded to your online application. Official transcripts are required only of applicants who are offered admission.

Statement of purpose:

Two 500-word essays are required:

  1. In the first essay, state your purpose in undertaking graduate study at the Elliott School of International Affairs and describe your academic and research interests. You should emphasize the specific ways in which the program will advance your future career goals.
  2. The second essay should address one of the following topics:
  • What is your country\xc2\x92s greatest foreign policy challenge and how should it respond?
  • Assess the impact of globalization on your organization, indicating both the challenges and opportunities that globalization produces.

Additional requirements:

A resum\xc3\xa9 or curriculum vitae is required. Applicants should have at least eight (8) years of professional international affairs experience or already possess an advanced degree (M.A., M.S., J.D., L.L.M., Ph.D.) and have completed two (2) semesters for introductory economics (one semester of micro- and macroeconomics).

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
