Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. 1st semester:\xa0mandatory theoretical and methodological courses, with lectures every day from 9 am \x96 4 pm (30 credits)
  2. 2nd semester:\xa0mandatory courses in methodology, planning your master project, writing the research protocol and medical ethics including application for ethical clearance (15 credits) and elective courses where we recommend the student chooses courses related to their research topic (15 credits)
  3. 3rd semester:\xa0field work and collecting data (30 credits)
  4. 4th semester:\xa0analyzing collected data, writing the thesis and some mandatory lectures mostly in the beginning of the semester (30 credits)
  5. Strategic communication in community health
  6. Introduction to Medical Anthropology: key concepts and perspectives
  7. Epidemiology in practice - Methodology, examples and tools
  8. Health management information systems
  9. New priorities for HIV and AIDS in the developing world context \x96 prevention, treatment, and care

Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Admission to master\'s degree studies requires:

  • Higher Education Entrance Qualification\xc2\xa0and a completed bachelor\'s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor\'s degree. Applicants with foreign education, please refer to the\xc2\xa0country list.
  • a specialization defined by the programme
  • a minimum grade average of C (in the Norwegian grading scale) or equivalent from the specialization in your degree.
  • a language requirement documented by one of the tests/exams below:
    a) Passed examination in English foundation course (140 hours/5 periods per week) with a minimum grade of 4 in Norwegian upper secondary school (or an equivalent grade from a Nordic upper secondary school) or passed examination in English from second and/or third school year in Norwegian upper secondary school,\xc2\xa0or
    b) An internationally recognised\xc2\xa0English language proficiency test.

Required specialization

The applicants\xc2\xa0are required to\xc2\xa0have a specialization within health science or social science. If the\xc2\xa0specialization is not within health, the applicants are required\xc2\xa0to document some relevant work experience or other type of experience or training\xc2\xa0within health.

  • A Statement of purpose letter\xc2\xa0- Maximum 1 page. In this motivation letter you should write a little about your background and how it fits into this program, and\xc2\xa0indicate topics or areas of research you would like to get involved in and if there are any countries or regions you are most interested in, as well as other relevant information. The letter must be written\xc2\xa0in English.\xc2\xa0
  • CV\xc2\xa0- Maximum\xc2\xa02 pages

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
