Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Application must be made online through the Graduate School. In addition to the general Graduate School requirements, the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures requires the following materials which should be submitted along with the Graduate School\'s on-line application (not sent to the Graduate School or the Department):
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which must be submitted by professors in the proposed field of graduate work with whom the candidate has recently studied.
  • Results of the GRE and TOEFL, for non-native English speakers.
  • A recent paper in the language of the proposed field of study.
  • The following is also required by the Department and should be sent to Linda Rule, Romance Languages & Literatures, 343 O\'Shaughnessy Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or linda.rule@nd.edu: A compact disc or MP3 file, which should demonstrate your competency in Italian if you are native speaker of English, or in English if you are a native speaker of the language you plan to study. You need not prepare an original speech for this purpose but may simply read aloud

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
