Course Structure

  1. 30 credits for core courses of the Research MA Art Studies (Kunstwetenschappen)
  2. 40 credits for core courses combining theory and practice

  4. 30 credits for a one-semester research project resulting in a thesis and an artistic work.

Academic Requirements

Previous education: The Research Master\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\x99s in Artistic Research is open to all students with a Bachelor\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\x99s diploma from the UvA, or a recognised equivalent from another accredited university in:\n- Cultural Studies\n- Art History\n- Media and Culture\n- Musicology\n- Theatre Studies\nProspective students with a BA in one of the aforementioned disciplines will still need to show that they have both experience and knowledge of artistic practice.\nApplicants with Bachelor\'s degrees in art studies and/or fine arts are encouraged to apply. Students with an academic background in art studies must have experience in art practice or be able to demonstrate a relation between their academic work and practice. Students with a fine arts background and no art studies experience can be asked to complete an academic preparatory programme first.\nThe nature of this programme and the limited availability of research places at art institutes and companies means that only a small number of students can be accepted each year.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
