Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.7

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.7 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Requirements

BSEd/MT in Kinesiology \xc2\x96 Health and Physical Education

Off-Grounds Transfer Students: Apply for admission to UVA through the University\'s Office of Undergraduate Admission complete the Permission to Enroll application for transfer students, and meet criteria 2, 3, 5, 6 listed below.

On-Grounds Students:

To be granted permission to enter the BSEd/MT program, you must:

1. be enrolled as a first-year or second-year student in the Curry 4-year Kinesiology program;

2. have completed EDIS 2010 and 2880 (or VA Community College equivalent coursework);

3. Demonstrate academic success (UVA GPA of 2.7 and major GPA of 3.0);

4. Submit the Permission to Enroll application to the Office of Teacher Education (326 Bavaro Hall) by February 1 of your first or second year at UVA;

5. Provide test scores that meet criteria set by the VA Dept of Education in ONE of the following:

  • PRAXIS CORE ACADEMIC SKILLS FOR EDUCATORS TESTS (effective 1/1/14): 150 math, 156 reading, 162 writing; if Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test was taken prior to 12/31/13 178 math, 178 reading, 175 writing or 532 composite score, OR
  • SATs taken prior to 4/1/95--score of 1000, with at least 450 verbal, 520 math; if taken after 4/1/95--score of 1100 with at least 530 verbal, 530 math OR
  • ACTs taken prior to 4/1/95 \xc2\x96 composite score of 21, with at least 21 in math and an ACT English Plus Reading score no less than 37; if taken after 4/1/95 \xc2\x96 composite score of 24, with at least 22 in math, and an English Plus Reading score of 46, OR
  • VCLA: Reading and Writing as an optional assessment for the PRAXIS CORE reading and writing tests (VCLA cut scores: writing subtest of 235, reading subtest of 235, composite score of 470) in combination with qualifying math scores from SATs, ACTs, or PRAXIS CORE.

6. Show good progress toward meeting GENERAL REQUIREMENTS through coursework or AP or IB credits in:

  • Natural Sciences (12 hrs.) BIO 2010 and 2020, BIO Lab 2030 or 2040, Mathematics at the 1100 level or higher
  • English Composition (6 hrs. including second writing requirement) same as the College
  • Humanities (6 hrs.) same as the College
  • Historical Studies (3 hrs.) 3 cr. American History (HIUS 2001 or 2002)
  • Social Sciences (6 hrs.) Psychology/Sociology/Anthropology/Linguistics/Economics
