International Graduate students:

• Permanent Residents: Copy of Alien Registration card/Legal Permanent Resident card.

• Financial Statement of Responsibility for students needing an F1 or J1 visa

English proficiency - an official score report received directly from one of the following test agencies and not more than 2 years old:

• TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

• IELTS \xc2\x96 International English Language Test System

• MELAB \xc2\x96 Michigan English Language Assessment Battery

• PTE \xc2\x96 Pearson\'s Test of English

Admission Requirements

Eastern Michigan University\'s General Graduate School Admission Requirements

Applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. institution.A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate program. Some departments require higher minimum GPAs; see specific program requirements. Applicants who do not meet minimum admission requirements may be considered for conditional admission.

All prospective Graduate students should submit:

• Completed graduate application

• Application fee ($45)

• Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities (EMU alums do no need to request official transcripts).

Additional requirements, such as standardized test scores, letters of recommendations, department applications or teacher certification, are determined by each academic department. See program requirements noted in the Graduate Catalog.

Students with non-U.S. post-secondary credentials must submit an evaluation of their international transcripts from the Educational Perspectives (EP) credential evaluation service.

Applicants must:

• Declare the foreign language to be used for the language area requirement on the Application for Graduate Admission (e.g., Language and International Trade - French). Native speakers of a language may not elect that language without permission of the language section concerned. (Students applying to the ESL section of the master of arts in language and international trade should be sure their completed applications reach the Office of Admissions five months prior to the first semester of their program.);

• Possess a minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75;

• Submit a statement of their reasons for pursuing this degree;

• Have two of their former University professors complete departmental recommendation forms and forward them directly to the department; and

• Meet the background requirements stated below:

1. Foreign Language
2. Non-native speakers of French, German or Spanish must possess at least a minor in that language with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, or the equivalent proficiency.
3. Non-native speakers of English must possess a minimum score of 80 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery, a minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a minimum score on the computerized versions.
4. Economics
5. A two-course sequence in macroeconomic theory and policy. A two-course sequence in micro economic theory and policy.
6. Business
7. A course in the principles of accounting. A course in basic computers in business.
