Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Criteria

Applications for admission to the program are made at the Graduate Admission Office. Students who do not fully meet admission requirements may be required to complete prerequisite courses concurrently with completion of the certificate program requirements. Admission is based on a comprehensive review of multiple criteria, including the following:

  • Possession of a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree with a 2.75 or higher GPA.
  • Completion of General Education Core prerequisites for teacher education programs (see below).
  • Prior course work in a language in which foreign language education certification will be sought. (See Foreign Language Content Requirements below.)
  • Personal statement describing the applicant\xc2\x92s intent and rationale for entering the program.
  • Two (2) letters of reference addressing the applicant\xc2\x92s potential to succeed in the teaching profession and in the teacher education program course work.
  • An interview with the coordinator of the program.

The department understands that any single criterion may not reliably predict a student\xc2\x92s potential for success in the program. Candidates may wish to apply even if they do not meet one of the criteria but feel that other aspects of their experience might compensate.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
