Academic Requirements
Persons wishing to enrol in the PBDLD program must have:
- a recognized law degree equivalent to an LL.B. or J.D. that entitles them to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the degree was granted, or
- approval of the Program Coordinator based on an assessment of other approved or recognized university or college degrees and a minimum of three years of previous, related work experience in drafting laws, policies, bylaws, regulations, or collective agreements, or comparable drafting duties.
Most government drafting offices require their legislative counsel to have a law (JD or LLB) degree, and some also require them to be admitted to the practice of law in the jurisdiction they serve. The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting therefore would not be a sufficient qualification on its own for employment in those offices.
Individualized-study courses will be offered throughout the year, beginning on the first day of each month. If you wish to take an individualized-study course and have not yet received confirmation of program status, you may apply as a non-program student. You must apply at least one month in advance of your intended start date. You may take up to two courses in the PBDLD program as a non-program student. Successfully completed courses may be transferred into the PBDLD program upon admission into the program.
When your program application has been reviewed and approved, you will be contacted by email with further instructions.English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
