Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  1. Possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

  2. Have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or better or possess another degree beyond the bachelor\xc2\x92s degree. Applicants with an undergraduate grade point average between 2.50 and 2.99 can satisfy this requirement by one of the Alternative Admissions methods.

  3. Meet the SLIS Technology Requirements. Entering students with strong technology skills are encouraged to consider submitting a request to waive the core course, LIS 6080, Information Technology.

  4. Submit a personal statement reflecting relevant personal and academic background and experience. The statement should be a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 500 words (1-2 pages).

  5. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.

  6. Attend New Student Orientation. MLIS students must attend orientation prior to starting classes. The School views orientation as an essential element of the MLIS program. Students who do not attend the on-campus orientation sessions will be dropped from their classes. This is not applicable to certificate-only students.
