Program Overview
The aim of this programme is to introduce you to key spaces by engaging in and attending study-units on; Epistemologies in Gender Studies, Research Methods in Gender Studies, Gender Based Violence, Gender and Culture and Gender and Social Justice. The programme is designed as having a predominantly taught component, culminating with a research element in the form of a dissertation, which allows you to engage at a deeper level in a particular area of interest with a selected supervisor. You are expected to cover all the prescribed readings and participate fully in all activities related to the programme. You are advised to keep pace with the work set, allowing sufficient time for any research work and/or revision. The programme of studies for the course consists of a taught component totalling 60 ECTS credits and a research component to which 30 ECTS credits are assigned. Government policy is based on gender mainstreaming and gender mainstreaming is essential in order to access EU Funds, attain higher visibility and inject equity into all spheres of work. Admission Requirements
Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of a Bachelor degree from this University or any other institution recognized by Senate, obtained with at least Second Class Honours or Category II. Applicants in possession of a Bachelor degree obtained with Third Class Honours or Category III may also be accepted, provided that such applicants are in possession of other qualifications or relevant experience, obtained following the first cycle degree. The Faculty Admissions Committee may, after thorough examination of documents submitted in support of the qualifications presented, and following an interview, recommend the admission of applicants applying for admission in terms of the University’s Policy for the Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL) who are in possession of other academic or professional qualifications and documented experience if these are deemed to be comparable to the qualifications referred to in paragraph (1). The admission of such applicants may be made subject to those conditions that may be imposed to address any lacunae in the applicants’ academic preparation. Notes and any other requirements All applicants shall be required to demonstrate that they have the necessary aptitude and disposition to follow the Course with profit which shall be measured by means of a personal interview conducted by an interviewing board appointed for the purpose. The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Applicants admitted under paragraphs (2) and (3) may be required to complete a preparatory programme.
