Program Overview

The subject areas of this programme correspond to the Departments of the Faculty, and to the research interests and activities within each and inter-disciplinary themes, in which guidance and supervision can be offered, and subject to the availability of resources as determined by the Faculty. You will typically follow a short-directed reading component, deliver a presentation related to the research, and embark on the preparation of a dissertation, based on work of an advanced or original nature undertaken by you.

The degree will further prepare you for research on Dental Sciences. The introduction of this course will enable you to further your knowledge in selected dental topics. The faculty also offers the facility to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy.

Program Curriculum

Year 1 In addition to the study-units indicated in the programme, students may be required to register for up to 12 ECTS credits in supplementary study-units as directed by the Board. Year (This/these unit/s start/s in Semester 1 and continue/s in Semester 2) Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) DNS5020 Research Methods in Applied Dental Sciences 10 ECTS DSG5028 Directed Studies in Dental Sciences 10 ECTS Year 2 Semester 1 Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) DNS5024 Dissertation 70 ECTS This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the degree of Master of Science - M.Sc. – under the auspices of the Faculty of Dental Surgery.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be in possession of: Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery - B.Ch.D. - with at least Second Class (Honours) or the degree of Master of Dental Surgery awarded from July 2018 onwards or the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) with at least Second Class (Honours) in Dental Hygiene or Dental Technology or the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) with at least Second Class (Honours) with Chemistry, or Biology, or Chemistry with Materials, as one of the main areas of study or a degree with at least Second Class (Honours) in a discipline related to health science or a degree with at least Second Class (Honours) in an area of study which the Board deems to be relevant to the proposed area of study. The admission of applicants under paragraphs (c) to (e) may be made conditional on the results of an interview conducted for the purpose. Notes and any other requirements In cases where an applicant lacks essential knowledge in particular areas not covered in his/her first degree, the Faculty Board may require the applicant to follow and pass supplementary study-units at level 4 or lower to which not more than 12 ECTS credits are assigned.
