Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
- A bachelors degree from a university, equivalent to the level of a Dutch academic bachelors degree, or demonstrate to meet the requirements for such a degree, including the General Academic Skills.
- Knowledge of and insight into linguistics comparable with the qualifications acquired by students graduating from the bachelors programme Linguistics from Leiden University, for example a Bachelors degree in China Studies with a focus on or a minor in linguistics.
Applicants who possess a Bachelors degree in China Studies from Leiden University and who have completed the minor Taalwetenschap: taal en communicatie are considered to have fulfilled these requirements.
- Sufficient command of English (IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 100 (internet-based) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)).
This language requirement does not apply if you have:
- completed your education in Canada (except Quebec), USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO-diploma.
Students who have a Bachelors degree in Linguistics from Leiden University are always eligible for admission and only need to apply through Studielink. All others need to submit an online application. See How to apply for further details.
Applicants with a degree from a Dutch University of Applied Sciences (HBO) are not eligible for admission.
