Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Cinema and Digital Media is a two to three-year Master\xc2\xb4s follow-up programme focusing on Screenwriting, Directing and/or Cinematography, and open to anyone who has completed a Bachelor\xc2\xb4s degree in any subject. The instruction is in English and the applicants must demonstrate their knowledge of English at the B2 level based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) during the admission procedure.

Applicants should be prepared for the fact that, as part of the online interview, they may be requested by the admissions committee to complete additional tasks immediately. For that purpose, applicants should have digital camera ready for use.

The application involves the following requisites:

1. Application form. Please complete it using a computer and send us signed hardcopy with photograph.

2. Two letters of recommendation from current or previous tutors outlining the applicant\xc2\xb4s expectations and motivation for the studies and your success.

3. Your structured CV.

4. Master\xc2\xb4s Degree project providing answers to the following basic questions:

  • Why would you like to study in the Czech Republic?
  • Why did you decide to apply for CDM?
  • Which of concentrations of study reflects your previous artistic production experience?
  • Which concentration do you wish to develop your creativity in? Directing, Screenwriting, or Cinematography?
  • What work would you like to graduate with? (e. g. script, feature film, documentary...)

5. Certificate of depositing the applicant\xc2\xb4s fee of EUR 50 .

7. Artistic samples - based on the specialisation you are applying for:

Cinematography:

Short feature or documentary (up to 10 minutes of duration)

Photographic storyboard on the topic "Encounter"

Two-minute audiovisual self-portrait

(All in tape DV PAL format, minimum)

Directing:

  • Short feature or documentary (up to 10 minutes of duration)
  • Photographic storyboard on the topic "Encounter"
  • Two themes for a short feature film
  • Two-minute audiovisual self-portrait

Screenwriting:

  • Screenplay for a short feature film or 10 pages from a screenplay
  • A theme for a full-length feature film
  • Two themes for short feature films (up to 10 minutes of duration)
  • A sample of your own literary writings
  • Two-minute audiovisual self-portrait

(All in MPEG)

All audiovisual works shall be submitted in DVD format (with no region restrictions) and subtitled in English, unless spoken in English.

8. Another mandatory item that your application must include is a notarised copy of your Bachelor\xc2\xb4s Degree diploma. If your Bachelor\xc2\xb4s diploma is in English, there is no need to translate it - a notarial certificate of it will suffice. If your diploma is in another language, we require its translation into English with a notarial certificate, and please also include a simple photocopy of the original diploma.
