The master's degree in mechanical engineering is offered under the following options:

  • Plan A (thesis option): A minimum of 32 credits in course work including an eight-credit thesis.
  • Plan C (coursework option): A minimum of 32 credits in course work.

In addition, many biomedical engineering courses are cross listed with ME courses and are available for ME Graduate students to take and be considered towards their degree. Graduate students must select a field of study in one of the three thrust areas of the ME Department.

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • All applicants for the MS or PhD program in Electrical and Computer Engineering whose BS degree is not from an ABET accredited university are required to submit scores of the general test of Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • All students who have BSEE from non-ABET accredited schools (which includes all international students) must pass GRE exam with a score of 1200 (Quantitative + Verbal) or better for admission.
  • All students, who have their degrees from a country where English is not the native language, must provide the TOEFL examination results.
  • The students, who earn a GPA of 3.0 (4 year) or better or B average in their BSEE degree program, may be recommended for regular admission.
  • The students, who earn a GPA of 2.8 to 3.0 in their BSEE degree program, may be recommended for qualified admission.
