Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

The minimum requirements for entrance are an undergraduate degree in a related discipline with a GPA 3.3 or above in the last two years and research experience in a laboratory setting.

For applicants not exempted from the English Language Test such as those who did a degree at a Canadian, American or British Institution, we require a minimum TOEFL score at least 600 (or 96 internet-based) or the equivalent in other English language tests ( >6.5 IELTS).

The GRE is not a requirement for our program for international students. For applicants applying directly from Asia and Africa, a thesis-based MSc degree in a related area highly improves your competition, but does not guarantee admission directly to the PhD program.

All admissions are made conditional on a match with a thesis supervisor or arrangements to rotate with two potential supervisors.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to indicate in their application the faculty members whose research areas are of highest interest. The list of faculty members eligible to supervise students can be found on the MMI website and applicants may contact them directly to request a placement in their laboratory. While an offer from a faculty member to join their laboratory is helpful, it does not guarantee admission to the program.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
