Course Structure

  1. Economic Geology focuses on characterisation of mineral\ndeposits and geological processes behind their genesis, forming a basis for\nmineral exploration. Central topics include ore geology, regional geology,\nmineralogy, geochemistry, mining industry, and exploration.
  2. Quaternary Geology covers a wide range of sub-disciplines\nincluding glacial geology, sedimentology, ore prospecting techniques, and\nhydrogeology. Education is also covering global change issues in the northern\nhemisphere and the Arctic
  3. Mining Engineering covers a wide range of topics, including\ngeotechnique, mining technologies, analysis of production capacity, and\nfinancing.
  4. Mineral Processing deals with the processes to economically\nseparate valuable minerals from the ores. Oulu Mining School has unique,\ncontinuous mode in-house concentrating plant that provides an excellent infrastructure\nfor training and education purposes.

Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

The programme is open for applications from students with a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in geology, or other sciences, as long as students have a sufficient background in geology (60 ECTS credits). It is expected that student candidates have basic skills in petrographic microscopy. Admitted students can\xc2\xa0be required to compensate for deficiencies\xc2\xa0by taking a limited number of bridge courses from the Bachelor programme. A sufficient knowledge of English is also required.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
