Career opportunities

Pharmaceutical companies and government regulatory agencies are recognising the value of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) modelling and simulation in making the best use of laboratory and clinical data, guiding and expediting drug development, and saving time and costs. A range of well-paid jobs exist in this area across the globe. Scientific and industry publications often discuss the current shortage and growing need for modellers. The full-time course is appropriate for science and engineering graduates who wish to enter the pharmaceutical industry. Career roles for alumni in industry include working on drug development projects, modelling and simulation research, and consultancy. The course also prepares students for further research studies eg PhD. The part-time course in well-suited for scientists already working within the pharmaceutical industry who wish to upskill and qualify as modellers with hands-on experience. The qualification will enhance your abilities within your current role or provide you with skills to progress into new posts.

Program Curriculum

Course overview

Qualify as a mathematical modeller with key skills in computational approaches in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Benefit from workshop sessions by applying the skills you develop to real-world data. Study at a university ranked 7th in the UK for Pharmacy and Pharmacology (QS, 2025). Units are also available as CPD courses. Please note This course develops mathematical modelling skills and has no laboratory or animal-basedcomponents. It also does not involve bioinformatics or molecular modelling. This course is not suitable for candidates who do not have the necessary numerical ability.
