Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Admission Requirements
Applications for admission to a Master of Science in Education program in the Department of Teacher Education Programs are made to the Graduate Admission Office. Students who do not meet the full admission requirements must complete all required courses, including general education core and content courses, prior to conferring of the degree. Admission is based on a comprehensive review of multiple criteria, including the following:
- A completed application form to the master\xc2\x92s program.
- A minimum grade point average of 2.75 in each of two categories:
- Overall undergraduate course work,
- Course work in music.
- Completion of General Education Core requirements for teacher education programs (see below).
- A written personal statement of professional intent and rationale.
- Two letters of reference that address the applicant\xc2\x92s potential to succeed in the teaching profession and in graduate course work.
The department understands that any single criterion may not reliably predict a candidate\xc2\x92s potential for success in a graduate program. Consequently, candidates are welcome to apply if they do not meet one of the criteria but feel that other aspects of their experience may compensate.
