Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
After you have submitted your online application, paid the non-refundable application fee, and Laurier has received your application, you\'ll receive an email from fgps@wlu.ca advising you to upload the additional required documentation to Laurier\xc2\x92s Online Viewing system.
An application for admission to Laurier\'s Master of Music Therapy program must include:
- The application summary available from the online application.
- Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work.
- A completed statement of intent.
- A r\xc3\xa9sum\xc3\xa9 of your academic and work experience. Include a history of your publication and scholarly paper activity and any other information you feel will interest the admissions committee.
- A sample of your scholarly writing (10-20 pages in length). This may be a paper written for a senior undergraduate course.
- Completed reference forms. Three references (two academic and one professional) are required. Note: Reference forms are electronically submitted to Laurier by the referee and do not need to be uploaded.
Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential to graduate studies at Laurier. Applicants whose language of instruction during their previous postsecondary education was not in English must submit evidence of proficiency in English. If applicable, results from accepted testing services must be uploaded to Laurier\xc2\x92s Online Viewing system.
AUDITION AND INTERVIEW
Students considered for admission on the basis of the application package will be contacted by Feb. 20 to establish a date and time for an audition and interview.
You will be asked to perform:
- Two contrasting pieces on your major instrument (at least one from the classical repertoire). The pieces can be chosen from different historical periods (e.g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, 20th or 21st century). If a sonata is chosen only one movement is required. Ten minutes maximum. Memory is optional. Provide musical scores for the audition panel.
- A piece on a secondary instrument (optional if you don\xc2\x92t play a secondary instrument).
- A piano piece (Grade 6, RCM level) if piano is not your major instrument.
- A song, accompanied on either piano or guitar (own composition, meaningful song or arranged song). The song can be from popular, folk or jazz genres. If the song is not in English, provide a translation for the audition panel.
- An improvisation on your major instrument. Musical and referential ideas will be provided at the audition.
- In the interview, you\xc2\x92ll be asked questions about your professional and personal interest in music therapy. Reading music therapy literature is recommended, e.g. Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy.
English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
