Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Admission to the MSc program in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering is directed towards all students who have completed a BSc or BEng education in chemistry, physics, chemical, mechanical or civil engineering or who have another relevant academic background, where they have passed a basic course in Materials Science.

Many national and international educations provide the required background for students to continue with the MSc education in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering.

Interested students are very welcome to contact the program coordinator (kpa@mek.dtu.dk) in case of questions or for individual consulting.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from DTU:

The following of DTU\'s BSc educations immediately fulfill the academic requirements and students can directly be admitted from:

  • Production and Construction
  • Design and Innovation
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Physics and Nanotechnology

Students who have completed a BSc in

  • Civil Engineering
  • Architectural Engineering

are also eligible after individual assessment based on the required pre-requisites.

Pre-requisites may for example be ensured through elective courses during the BSc study.

It is a requirement that a basic course in Materials Science has been passed at the BSc level.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from other national and international universities:

Students from many national and international institutions have good opportunities for admission.

Students holding a BSc degree from a relevant education at other universities than DTU can be admitted after individual assessment based on the pre-requisits described above. It is expected that students have a background that contains basic physics, chemistry and mathematics (in addition to the requirement of a basic course in Materials Science).

Bachelor in Engineering:

Bachelors of Engineering (BEng) from the following study programs at DTU can be admitted:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
  • Architectural Engineering.

Bachelors in Engineering from other programs and from other univesities than DTU may be admitted to the MSc program. Individual assessments will be made as to whether applicants meet the academic requirements for the MSc program. In addition, for applicants with a BEng degree at least 10 ECTS credit points from scientific disciplines are necessary.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
