Course Structure
- Medical Nutrition Therapy Emphasis
- Eleven month program (July \x96 May)
- Official Louisiana Tech University calendar observed
- 1200 hours of supervised practice combined with 15 hours of graduate coursework*
- Except for summer quarter, graduate courses can be taken on-line
- Graduate coursework leads to the Board of Regents Graduate Certificate in Dietetics
- Summer quarter (July-August) spent on-campus in Ruston
- Fall, winter and spring quarters (September \x96 May) interns complete practicum assignments in one of three geographical areas in Louisiana (Shreveport, Alexandria or Ruston/Monroe)
- In each geographic area, interns rotate through a variety of facilities, which may include acute and long-term care, school foodservice, wellness centers, community nutrition programs, dialysis centers, rehabilitation centers, and private practice
- Work approximately 32 - 40 hours per week in facilities
- Fall, winter and spring quarters require trips to campus for seminar classes approximately every other week
- Mandatory RD exam review course and score of 80% on practice exams. Five year pass rate of 82% for first time test takers on the national registration exam for dietitians through the Commission on Dietic Registration.

Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
IN-STATE STUDENTS must meet the following requirements:
- High School Curriculum: Regents\' Core: 19 units (from Core 4 Curriculum--see below)
- Either:
- High School Core GPA: GPA on the Core of at least 2.5 with a minimum overall ACT of 15 or SAT subscores of 450 in English and 460 in Math
- ACT/SAT: ACT composite of at least 23 or SAT subscores of 450 in English and 460 in Math with a minimum overall HS GPA of 2.0
- NO Developmental Courses Needed: Minimum ACT/SAT subscore of 18/450 in English and 19/460 in Math (Students meeting minimum admission standards except for the need for developmental courses must complete developmental courses at an institution that offers them during the summer in order to be admitted for the fall.)
OUT-OF-STATE AND HOME-SCHOOLED STUDENTS must meet the following requirements:
- One of the following:
- ACT/SAT: ACT composite of at least 26 or SAT subscores of 450 in English and 460 in Math with a minimum overall HS GPA of 2.0
- ACT/SAT and HS Core GPA: ACT composite of at least 23 or SAT subscores of 450 in English and 460 in Math AND HS GPA on at least 17 credits of the Core of at least 2.5
- Meet In-State Requirements: See above.
- NO Developmental Courses Needed: Minimum ACT/SAT subscore of 18/450 in English and 19/460 in Math (Students meeting minimum admission standards except for the need for developmental courses must complete developmental courses at an institution that offers them during the summer in order to be admitted for the fall.)
