Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
You will need a bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours (90 quarter hours of undergraduate work), and submission of your GRE test score.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum admissions requirements may be admitted with provisional status. Students who are admitted provisionally must complete all conditions of the provisional admission and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 after the completion of the first 9 credit hours of graduate study at American University or they will be academically dismissed.
In addition to the standard application materials, students who completed degrees at institutions outside the United States are required to submit:
- A transcript evaluation (and a translation, if applicable) in addition to original transcripts. Please contact your Admissions Adviser for specific information about acceptable transcript evaluation services.
- Official and current GRE test scores (may be waived for applicants with a master\xc2\x92s degree or higher)
