Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Entry requirements
  • 2:2 or above in a UK Bachelor\xc2\x92s Honours degree or a recognised equivalent international qualification, in any subject; and
  • 1000 word report (see below).
  • Students for whom English is not their first language must achieve a minimum score of 7 overall or equivalent with not less than 7.5 in listening/speaking and not less than 6.5 in writing and reading for the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) or a TOEFL score of 570 including 55 in the Test of Spoken English (TSE) and at least 5 in the Test of Written English (TWE), at the time of application.

Personal Specification

In addition to the appropriate academic qualifications and report, applicants will need to:

Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication;

Clearly explain their reasons for choosing occupational therapy as their professional career;

Articulate their understanding of the role of the occupational therapist, including the value base of the profession and in line with the NHS constitution;

Have the potential to meet the professional demands of occupational therapy and the programme of study to be undertaken;

Demonstrate due regard for dignity, respect for persons, confidentiality and equal opportunities in line with the NHS constitution;

Reflect upon their life skills and their relevance to occupational therapy, and the demands of the programme.

All students are required to fully engage with the mandatory skills training requirements of our professional bodies and statutory bodies on entry to comply with occupational health requirements and have an up to date immunisation record including hepatitis B. Visit and report guidance

As part of the application process you are required to complete at least one visit to an occupational therapist working in a health or social care setting and then write a 1000 word report on this experience.

If you are currently working or have previous work experience in health and social care, the visit should be to an unrelated service/ speciality.

The report should discuss the role of occupational therapy within the clinical setting chosen for your visit and how the practice of occupational therapy in this setting reflects the values, skills and attributes as stated in section two of the NHS constitution.

The report must not identify the trust, hospital, service or department visited and must not name any individuals, staff or patient/service users.

It is important that we are able to assess your academic writing skills as well as your understanding of occupational therapy; therefore, any sources of information you have drawn upon must be properly referenced. Failure to do this could result in your application being rejected. Please use your own judgement as to presentation/writing style.
