- An extensive literature review is performed in the autumn term.
- The laboratory programme, which is also undertaken largely in the autumn term, lasts for about 50 hours.
- During the spring term you undertake a group structural design study. During both terms there is a number of examinable coursework assignments.
- After the written examinations in April/May, full-time students undertake a full-time project until the end of September. It is expected that many projects will have significant industrial support and may be partly undertaken in industry, if appropriate. Part-time students are expected to undertake the bulk of their project in industry.

Academic Requirements
- Applicants should have been awarded, or expect to be awarded, a First Class (1st) or Upper Second Class (2:1) Honours degree, or equivalent overseas qualification, in engineering, materials science, physics or chemistry.

- All candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency for admission to the College.
