Program Overview
In the bachelor's degree program in Physics, you will receive a broad, solid grounding in all key areas of experimental and theoretical physics. You will learn to systematically analyze physical problems, develop models and work on them using mathematics, experiments and modern computer-aided methods.
In addition to specialist knowledge, you will acquire research- and science-oriented methodological skills and professional skills. Compulsory components such as physics laboratory courses, programming courses, courses on computer use in physics and elective options in the field of mathematics make a targeted contribution to this.
The degree program also offers you plenty of scope to develop your individual profile, in particular by offering a wide range of non-physics electives as well as options for advanced physics modules. The main focus of the bachelor's degree program in Physics is on imparting a broad basic knowledge in all central areas of experimental and theoretical physics. The (consecutive) master's degree program is reserved for a stronger profile and more in-depth content.
During your studies, you have various subjects, which consist of one or more modules. A module deals with a specific topic and consists of one or more courses. In the module handbook for your degree program, you will find a description of the modules and their subject assignment as well as a study plan. This gives you an orientation as to which courses you should attend in which semester in order to complete your studies within the standard period of study. The bachelor's degree program in Physics at KIT is divided into the subjects Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Copmuters and Programming, Physics Laboratory Courses, Compulsory Electives and Bachelor's Thesis as well as Interdisciplinary Qualifications. The program is divided into three consecutive phases:
Phase I (semesters 1-3):
In this phase, you lay the foundations for your understanding of classical physics and mathematics. You take the modules:
• Classical Experimental Physics 1-3: Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Optics & Thermodynamics
• Classical Theoretical Physics 1-3: Introduction, Mechanics, Electrodynamics
• Advanced Mathematics 1-3
• Computers and Programming in Physics: Programming and Algorithms (Python), Computer Algebra
• Computer-based Data Analysis (as a compulsory module in the subject Interdisciplinary Qualifications)
• Classical Physics Laboratory Course I
• Non-Physics Elective: choose a basic module from Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Philosophy, Materials Science, Eeconomic Sciences, Geophysics or Meteorology
Phase II (semesters 4-5):
The focus here is on Modern Experimental and Modern Theoretical Physics . You will take the following modules:
• Modern Experimental Physics 1-2: Atoms, Nuclei and Molecules; Structure of Matter
• Modern Theoretical Physics 1-2: Foundations of Quantum Mechanics; Advanced Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Physics
• Elective Computers and Programming in Physics: Statistical Data Analysis or Introduction to C++
• Classical Physics Laboratory Course II
• Modern Physics Laboratory Course
• Non-Physics Elective
Phase III (semester 6):
In the last semester of your bachelor's degree, you will choose one further in-depth module each in Modern Experimental and Modern Theoretical Physics:
• Modern Experimental Physics III: Experimental Solid State Physics or Experimental Particle and Astroparticle Physics
• Modern Theoretical Physics III: Theory of Condensed Matter or Theoretical Particle Physics
You will further acquire Interdisciplinary Qualifications, e.g. through the module "Introduction to Computer Applications for Science" or courses that you take at the House of Competence (HoC) or the Language Center.

Admission Requirements
For the bachelor's degree program in Physics, you need sufficient knowledge of the German language, which must correspond to at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Important: you must provide proof of the required language skills regardless of your citizenship and by the end of the enrollment period at the latest, but preferably at the time of application.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
No tuition fees at KIT (German public university). Semester contribution of approx. €235 covers public transport and student services. Funding available via DAAD, Deutschlandstipendium, Baden-Württemberg Stipendium, and KIT internal scholarships.
