Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Upper Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Applicants should normally have at least a 2.1 Honours degree in the cognate subjects of Biology, Physiology, Sports & Exercise Science, Nutrition or Exercise Science. Your first degree must contain the study of biochemistry and human physiology to level 5. A list of courses previously accepted for entry can be found at this link. Applicants who do not have English as their first language are required to have IELTS 7.0 with no skill below 6.5 or an equivalent award.
Applicants should cover the following criteria in their supporting statement (please note there is a 1000 word limt):

  • Commitment to dietetics and working in the NHS
  • Display an awareness of the role and duties of a dietitian and provide evidence to demonstrate this
  • Developed communication skills and evidence of experiences where communication skills have been used and adapted with people from a range of backgrounds
  • Demonstrate an interest in and ability to work with people in a care setting and recognise own strengths and weaknesses for working in this environment
  • Basic food preparation and cooking skills and exposure to the diversity and enjoyment of food in a multi-cultural society
  • Evidence of overcoming obstacles or challenges in either your personal or professional life

Satisfactory health and enhanced criminal history checks will be required by all applicants prior to acceptance on the course, these will be inline with professional body membership and HCPC registration requirements.
