Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

Waterloo\xc2\x92s Master\xc2\x92s in Computational Mathematics is a twelve month program, starting in September. Course requirements are completed in the first eight months. The last four months are devoted to a supervised research project.

tudents must undertake a four-month independent research project culminating in a research paper. The research project will be carried out in the Spring term (May to August). Students are asked to choose one or more areas of interest for their research project at the time of on-line application to the program.

Research Paper Students are required to take 6 (0.50 unit weight) courses from lists A and B. At least 4 courses must be taken from list A. At most 2 of the 6 courses taken may be courses in which undergraduate students predominate.

  • 1 of CM 761/STAT 840 Computational Inference; CM 762/STAT 842 Data Visualization; CM 763/STAT 841 Statistical Learning - Classification; CM 764/STAT 844 Statistical Learning - Function Estimation
  • CM 770 (AMATH 740/CS 770) Numerical Analysis

The remaining two courses are chosen from a list of suggested courses that are offered by the various departments and schools of the Faculty of Mathematics.
